3. How We Use Your Personal Information
We use your personal information to:
- Create and manage your ShowUpLocal account;
- Deliver the subscription service — including Google Business Profile audit reports, monitoring alerts, and performance insights;
- Process subscription payments and issue tax invoices;
- Send transactional emails (billing confirmations, audit notifications, service updates);
- Send marketing emails about ShowUpLocal products and updates, where you have consented (you can unsubscribe at any time);
- Improve our platform based on usage data;
- Comply with our legal obligations; and
- Respond to enquiries and support requests.
We will not use your personal information for any purpose incompatible with the purpose for which it was collected without your consent.
4. How We Store Your Personal Information
4.1 Storage Platform
Your personal data is stored securely using Supabase, a database platform. Data is encrypted at rest and in transit.
4.2 Cross-Border Disclosure
ShowUpLocal uses Supabase for data storage. Your personal data is stored on servers located in South Korea (AWS ap-northeast-2, Seoul). South Korea is not in Australia, and the Australian Privacy Principles may not apply to the overseas recipient.
In accordance with Australian Privacy Principle 8.1, we take reasonable steps to ensure that Supabase handles your personal information in a manner consistent with the APPs. Supabase is SOC 2 Type II certified and operates under its own privacy policy and data processing terms.
By using our Services and providing your personal information, you acknowledge that your data may be transferred to and stored in South Korea, and you consent to this transfer. If you do not consent, do not use the Services.
You may have rights under South Korean data protection law (Personal Information Protection Act — PIPA) in addition to your rights under Australian law. For more information, contact us at hello@showuplocal.com.au.
4.3 Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as:
- Your account or subscription is active;
- Necessary to fulfil the purposes described in this Policy; or
- Required by law (e.g., tax records — generally 5 years under Australian law).
When your data is no longer needed, we securely delete or de-identify it.
4.4 Security
We implement reasonable technical and organisational security measures to protect your personal information from unauthorised access, loss, misuse, or disclosure. These include:
- Encrypted storage (Supabase)
- HTTPS for all data in transit
- Access controls limited to authorised personnel
No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. If we become aware of a data breach that is likely to result in serious harm, we will notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) as required under the Notifiable Data Breaches (NDB) scheme.
5. Email Communications
5.1 Transactional Emails
As a subscriber, you will receive transactional emails necessary to deliver the service — including billing confirmations, audit reports, monitoring alerts, and account notices. These communications are a core part of the service and cannot be opted out of while your account is active.
5.2 Marketing Emails
With your consent, we may send updates about new features, plans, and ShowUpLocal news. You can unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time by:
- Clicking the "Unsubscribe" link in any marketing email; or
- Contacting us at hello@showuplocal.com.au.
Unsubscribing from marketing does not affect transactional service emails.
5.3 Spam Act Compliance
All marketing emails comply with the Spam Act 2003 (Cth). We will only send marketing emails with your express or inferred consent, and every email includes a functional unsubscribe mechanism.
6. Disclosure of Personal Information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information with:
